Shelly was raised in a strict Mormon household, with all the patriarchy, gender roles, and guilt and shame you would expect. After her rebellious teenage years, she “repented” and got married in the temple, because she believed that was what God wanted and was the only way to finally be happy. She behaved like a good Mormon wife and mother, dropping out of college to have 7 children and committing her life to the church.
At age 40 she snapped under the weight and pressure of this failed “Plan of Happiness.” Within the span of a year she left the church, came out of the closet, got divorced, and basically restarted her life with the plan of “Figuring Her Shit Out.”
This seismic shift birthed the Latter-Day Lesbian Podcast - a platform to process, navigate, laugh, cry, swear, and share her experiences.
